Smiggle, the UK’s fastest expanding retailer, signs for Worcester

Smiggle, the UK’s fastest expanding shopping centre retailer, has signed a new lease at Crowngate shopping centre in the historic City of Worcester. The Australian stationery brand has acquired an 800 sq ft unit, arranged over the ground and first floors, in Crowngate’s Chapel Walk.

Owned by The Crown Estate, Crowngate is Worcester’s largest shopping centre, providing 300,000 sq ft of retail space. Crowngate is situated in a strong catchment area with over 1.2 million residents, and is anchored by House of Fraser, Debenhams and Primark. The two shopping areas, Friary Walk and Chapel Walk, have been at the heart of Worcester City centre since first opening in 1992.

Smiggle was recently named the UK’s fastest expanding shopping centre retailer by Trevor Wood Associates’ Going Shopping 2017 – The Definitive Guide to Shopping Centres report; acquiring 39 stores in the UK last year and looking to acquire approximately 30 to 40 new stores in 2017.

Nicole Campbell, Asset Manager at The Crown Estate said: “The addition of Smiggle complements our already diverse tenant mix, further strengthens our retail offer and ensures that Crowngate is a best-in-class shopping destination for the shoppers of Worcester. We look forward to welcoming Smiggle in the summer.”

Matt Taylor, Leasing Executive at Smiggle, commented: “As our rollout in the UK progresses, we are continuing to look for opportunities for the Smiggle brand. Worcester has an exceptionally strong and loyal catchment, and this new store demonstrates our ongoing confidence in the UK market.”
The Crown Estate was advised by Savills (Bristol) and MMX Retail.
