MMX Retail raises £40,000 for Brain Tumour Charity

Niche retail practice MMX Retail has raised £40,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity after undertaking a series of challenges over the last 18 months.

The fundraising challenges have included the Royal Parks half marathon, race night, 5k fun run, triathlon, walking the height of Everest, and a lift ban.

The series of events culminated in a 26-mile marathon walk across London featuring key figures from the retail industry including representatives from Nuveen, M&S, GAP, Savills, CBRE, Space, McMullen Real Estate and Kennedy Wilson.

MMX Retail has worked closely with the Brain Tumour Charity since Alex Hobbs, son of David Hobbs (partner at MMX), was diagnosed with a type of Brain Tumour (Medulloblastoma) in September 2017, aged three and a half years old.

The funds raised by MMX are being specifically directed towards the Brain Tumour Charity’s PNET5 trail fundraising campaign, a pioneering treatment that Alex has undertaken as the first participant in the UK.

David Hobbs, partner at MMX Retail, said: “I would like to thank all of our partners, families and colleagues who have supported our fundraising efforts over the past 18 months.

“Alex has finished his radiotherapy and chemo treatment now and is having quarterly brain scans to see if the tumour returns.

“We have started to turn our attention to the long term life-altering impacts the treatment will have on him, but for now he is doing fantastically well and getting stronger and happier by the day.”

David Justice, partner at MMX Retail, said: “To raise £40,000 for such an important cause is such a proud achievement. We have been following Alex’s journey closely and we are delighted with the progress he has made.

“This will not be the end of our fundraising efforts and we will certainly be calling upon our colleagues and partners to help us raise vital funds to support such a valuable charity.

Harriet Palmer, Corporate Partnerships Officer at the Brain Tumour Charity, said: “MMX Retail have been a tremendous supporter of ours over the past few years. Their fundraising efforts have been phenomenal and it is excellent to see them unite an industry into supporting our cause and we look forward to what they have in store for next year.

“The funds raised will go towards the development of this vital research which will help more patients like Alex.”
